Did Catherine Howard really write a love letter to Thomas Culpeper?
VERDICTTRUE
Yes, and it survives at The National Archives (SP 1/167). Written during the royal progress in 1541, it says “it makes my heart to die” to be apart from him, asks him to come when Lady Rochford is there, and is signed “Yours as long as life endures, Katheryn.” It was found in Culpeper’s rooms and used as evidence against them both.
