Did Franklin send his fart essay to Joseph Priestley?

Indirectly. In September 1783, just after the peace treaty, he sent a copy to Richard Price, calling it “a jocular Paper I wrote some Years since,” and suggested Price pass it to Priestley, “who is apt to give himself Airs.” In January 1782 he had asked William Carmichael not to publish it in Spain.
